Aesthetic: a particular personal style, usually following and mixing different trends.
Catwalk: the long, narrow stage models walk on to show off clothes. It’s also sometimes called a runway.
Couture: a shorter version of the term ‘haute couture’, which means ‘high dressmaking’. This word is usually used to talk about very expensive handmade designer clothes.
Lookbook: a group of photos or sketches that designers use to quickly show off their collection.
Pattern: the flat template for a piece of clothing. Patterns are usually printed on paper, and then pinned to fabric and cut out.
Tailor: someone who makes and adjusts clothes to fit each person perfectly.
Thrifted: thrifted clothes are clothes that you buy second hand. This is better for the planet than always buying new clothes.
Silhouette: the overall shape of a piece of clothing when it’s worn. Clothing with an unusual shape can create a very dramatic and memorable silhouette.
Vintage: clothes that were first created over 20 years ago are considered vintage. Anything older than 100 years old is usually called antique.
Retro: modern clothes that mimic styles from the past.
